BECOME A HOST FAMILY

2026 is the 12th season of Yakima Valley Pippins baseball, and we’re working hard to make Yakima among the top destinations for collegiate players in the West Coast League. Our players come from all over the country and one question that is frequently asked is, “Where are these players going to live during the season?” The answer is with host families. Host families have the opportunity to “adopt” a player during the summer, establishing lifelong friendships, and in many cases, the chance to follow “your boys” throughout the career progression toward Major League Baseball.

In a special time of life there’s a special bond between our players and their host families. When they talk about their journey, standing on a big league field, they often recall the impact and the friendships that they haven’t forgetten, even decades later.

You can make an impact in baseball, through hospitality every summer.

What is expected of a host family?

Host families are to provide free room and board to these players during the 2+ month West Coast League season, the ability to get to and from the ballpark every night, and a family environment to help players transition to a new and sometimes foreign community. While players are developing professionals, they are still young men who are learning to adjust without Mom or Dad to provide. Host families help bridge that gap. Players begin arriving at the end of May (some as late as mid-June), and stay through the middle of August.

What are the benefits provided to host families?

As a thank you to opening up your home and families to these players, and allowing them to live free of charge in your home, host families are provided with the following benefits:

  • A reserved season ticket for each member of your household;

  • 20% off team merchandise throughout the season;

  • 10% off all concessions (alcohol not included)

  • A preseason party in the spring, just before the season starts, to thank you for your contributions and commitment and to discuss last-minute details before players arrive;

  • An in-season picnic deck all-you-can-eat experience during a game;

  • Youth in the household receive free registration to one Pippins Skills Camp during the summer;

  • A night at the ballpark where host families will be welcomed onto the field and recognized for their contributions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Timeline: You need to be able to host players from the last week in May through mid-August.  (Players are on the road approximately 40% of the season.) Some players may require a shorter stay

  • Supply each player with their own bed and linens

  • Access to a bathroom, including late access after games.

  • Laundry facilities, so players can do their own laundry.

  • Clean, non-smoking, safe environment.

  • Meals/food for players when they are in town. Normally three meals per day. (often on game days, players do not eat meals at normal meal times)

  • Assist with transportation to and from the ballpark if applicable.
